Kick-off meeting - 21st - 23rd of April 2022
Due to the ongoing pandemic situation worldwide, the first meeting of the network took place in digital format.
It was (mostly) held via the online platform gather.town, where a 2D virtual conference space was created in order to simulate a real-life encounter and interaction between the network members.
In this meeting, the participants got to know each other and their respective research projects during various sessions of a poster exhibition that were combined with short poster presentations. They also heard and discussed a lecture by the invited guest expert Kobus Marais (South Africa) on “Okyeame poma: Exploring the translator's agency in precolonial Africa”, as well as planned the further network activities and meetings, discussing and elaborating in this context initial categories and codes regarding the relevant concepts and data analysis.
The kick-off meeting ended with a collective brainstorming session, during which the members planned the outcome of the network, as well as the modality, dynamics, and thematic focus of the second meeting. As to the outcome, it was agreed to release a joint publication and hold a conference at the faculty of translation studies of the University of Mainz in Germersheim, Germany in 2024. With respect to the second network meeting, it was decided that this will take place online at the end of 2022, with the thematic focus being on ‘methods’ and ‘aspects of participation’.
