Fourth meeting (in Germersheim, Germany)

Fourth Meeting 6th – 8th of June 2024

Program

From June 6 to June 8 of 2024, the network members met once more at the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Germersheim, Germany for the fourth meeting of the network. During this occasion, the group explored aspects of participation and (self-)positioning at the micro-level of (triadic) interactions in different social contexts. Special attention was paid to the complex role multilingualism, translation, as well as underlying language and translation ideologies play with regard to the possibility of participation of actors in the specific interactions.

During the three days of the meeting, the members presented and discussed their insights together with two invited guest experts, who held talks on Equitable participation in court interpreting: Between translanguaging and language ideologies (Philipp Angermeyer, York) and Participatory communication and interpreting in legal contexts (Mira Kadrić-Scheiber, Vienna). The meeting also served to bringing together and structure the networks’ findings, as well as brainstorming on future cooperations and discussing the concept for a joint publication as an outcome of the network.
